Japanese guests at the MSX goto40 event

Special guest is Kazuhiko “Kay” Nishi. He is a pioneer in the personal computer industry and has introduced the MSX standard in Japan. Nishi is the president of MSX Association; a private organization that originates from people who have an affinity with the MSX standard. They are currently developing a continuation of the MSX standard in the form of MSX0 and MSX3.

Another guest is Yuji Takenouchi a.k.a. TECHNOuchi. He started in 1989 at Konami's sound department where he composed music for MSX games such as Space Manbow, Metal Gear 2, Solid Snake, SD Snatcher and Quarth. He is currently active as a freelance composer.

Tadahiro Nitta is a renowned composer who has had a major influence on the world of MSX games. He is best known for mesmerizing players with his incredible melodies and innovative sound design for classic video games from the Microcabin company such as Fray in Magical Adventure, Illusion City and the first three games in the Xak series. To top it off, Nitta will also be performing some of his compositions with real MSX hardware.

Concert Level Up!

We will be performing with a repertoire of MSX video game music. Video Game Music from Konami, Compile and Microcabin are of course on the set list. The music will be supported by visuals and animations.

The band Level Up! consists of five musicians and an animator playing existing video game music. Originally this music came from the chipset of the computer and/or game cartridge that was programmed by musicians and/or programmers. We play this existing and well-known chiptune music with musical instruments and give our own creative, musical and visual interpretation to these songs.

MSX goto40 event

MSX goto40 celebrates the 40th anniversary of the MSX computer. This special event will take place on December 9th 2023 in Theater 'het Zonnehuis' in Amsterdam. Discover the past, present and future of MSX with many activities such as lectures, a unique exhibition about the history of MSX, live music, sales of hard- and software, but also related MSX products. Game competitions, a lottery and much more.
